BCGC was established by Joshua Morshead in 2010 with the intention of bringing people in the local community together to sing for self-expression and for fun, regardless of whether or not they had a musical background.
Taking the reins from Joshua, the vivacious and talented Jolene Moran nurtured the choir over an impressive decade to grow and develop BCGC into a vibrant community of voices hailing from across Greater Melbourne.
In 2020 BCGC was passed into the care of Jacqueline Gawler – acclaimed singer/composer/percussionist and artist with multi award-winning vocal quintet Coco’s Lunch – to continue Jolene’s work with the choir. Across the bumpy and rugged landscape of the pandemic, Jacqueline steered the BCGC singing community to keep the vocal harmonies going online, offline, over-the-line and sometimes out-of-line, always with the aim of sparking joy and continuing the good times.
In 2022, good pals and Monash University music degree graduates Loz Irwin-Ray and Reuben Legge took over the reigns to usher in a new era for the choir, featuring piano accompaniment and a team conducting approach!
Continuing the team conducting in 2023 are Nicki Johnson and Craig Barrie. Nicki is a highly experienced singing leader, who in her day job, mentors community music group leaders and delivers training and professional development events across the state for Community Music Victoria (cmvic.org.au). Craig is a skilled accompanist and harmony singer, supporting choirs and ensembles on guitar and his beloved ukulele.
Warm, friendly and encouraging choir leaders, Nicki & Craig love nothing better than a wholehearted harmony sing with their big music family and are bursting with joy at finally connecting up with BCGC!
